Chia, chia, chia. You may be hearing this word wondering "what is chia?" Is it new? Is it good? It turns out that chia seeds are ancient, dating back to the times of the Mayans and Aztecs. Lately, these seeds have been getting a great deal of publicity due to their "superfood" qualities and availability in nearly every grocery store.

Chia seeds are a great source of nutrients, including fiber, protein, calcium, omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. They help with hydration, digestion, and blood pressure regulation. Overall, here are the 7 reasons why we LOVE chia: 1) full of vitamins and minerals 2) each serving is packed with protein and fiber 3) good for your brain, bones, teeth, and heart 4) regulates your appetite and keeps you fuller for longer 5) great for hydration 6) considered a “superfood” 7) versatile seed that can be eaten for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

Chia can be enjoyed...

  • Raw - put on yogurt, salads, oatmeal, rice
  • As a gel - blend the chia seeds with liquid and let it thicken for 30 minutes
  • Instead of eggs - combine 1 tbsp. chia with 3 tbsp. liquid to replace one egg
